8 Small Changes That Instantly Improve Your Creative Space

Easy changes you can make today to improve focus, comfort, and creative flow.

Title

Every creator needs a workspace that inspires.

Unfortunately, putting one together is often easier said than done.  You can spend hours organizing, rearranging, and trying to keep everything tidy, only to find that something still feels off.

We’re here to help change that.

Below are eight small changes you can make that can instantly improve your creative space.

1. Declutter Your Desk

While you don’t necessarily need to go full minimalist mode, it’s always a good idea to keep clutter off of your desk.

Having extra unnecessary items like trash or old papers can contribute to you feeling uncomfortable and messy when working in your creative space.

An easy way to fix this is simply by asking yourself “What positively contributes to my creative flow?” If it’s something that helps you out, then keep it on your desk. If a certain pencil or camera has been sitting on your desk for months gathering dust, it may be time to remove it.

2. Add Art Inspiration

One of the best ways to make your creative space feel more like your own is by adding your favorite art pieces as decorations.

Whether it’s framing a piece of work or putting a mood board on the wall, you’ll find that having art nearby helps your own creativity.

As a bonus, you can always use your decorations as inspiration for your next masterpiece. Simply look up at your decorations, think about what you do like and what you don’t like, and apply that knowledge to your own artwork.

3. Keep Your Creative Tools Nearby

When you’re in the middle of a creative session, the last thing you want is to realize you don’t have the tools you need. Keeping the essentials nearby, such as rulers, pencils, or paper, is a good habit to build.

It’s also very important that you always keep a sketchbook or notebook close by. That way, if you’re struck with inspiration, you’ll be able to write down your ideas before they slip away.

4. Separate Analog From Digital

In the modern age, it can be scarily easy to spend hours roaming the internet searching for inspiration or getting lost in funny cat videos.

That’s why it can be a great benefit to separate your digital items from your analog ones.

If you have a computer you use for your creative process, keep it away from your paper and pencils. That way, when you’re working on traditional art, you won’t get distracted and start browsing the web.

While digital mediums are a great way to create unique art, nothing quite beats the magic of making something with your own hands.

5. Control Your Lighting

Lighting is one of those details that’s easy to overlook when setting up your desk, but it makes a bigger difference than most people realize.

Where your light comes from and how strong it is can shape how comfortable you feel and how your work turns out.

If you’re near a window, you probably don’t want light shining directly in your eyes all day. And if you’re using a lamp, the angle and color temperature matter, especially when you’re filming or taking photos.

The Canvas Lamp puts that control back in your hands, letting you adjust brightness, warmth, and position so your setup works with you, not against you.

6. Add Plants To Keep It Feeling Fresh

Every desk can benefit from having a little liveliness added to it. Plants are a great way to accomplish a fresher and more lively feel for your workspace. Even if you don’t have much desk space left, you can get hanging plants to drape from the ceiling or off of shelves.

The best part is that you can also buy artificial ones. No need for dealing with water and dirt going everywhere.

7. Label Everything

As any crafter knows, a hobby can quickly turn into a mountain full of supplies and tools you didn’t know you wanted.

To avoid a scene out of Hoarders, it never hurts to organize and label everything you have.

This could look like anything from sorting different mediums into labeled boxes, having a drawer just for glue, sorting construction paper by color, and more. Label makers are relatively cheap and go a long way in ensuring the organization of your creative space.

8. Add Final Personal Touches

No creative workspace would be complete without some personal touches.

This can take any form you want it to. However, some ideas for it could be color coordinating your entire room to your favorite color, adding pictures of friends and family, or putting stickers on everything.

When it comes to personalization, you have the freedom to do whatever you can imagine. Just make sure it’s special to you!
